Running with Purpose

What if all you had to do to make a change in the lives of the people living in your city was RUN? This fall, that’s exactly what Women’s Health Magazine is asking you to do with Run 10, Feed 10.

The Run 10 Feed 10 website states a terrible truth:

“Right now, 16 million children are at risk of going hungry – they don’t know where their next meal is coming from. The reality is there IS enough food in the world today for everyone to get the nourishment they need for a healthy and productive life. Hunger is a solvable problem. It’s something we can do something about, and make a huge impact in a very simple way.”

Run a 10K with Women’s Health and upon paying your registration fee, you will instantly provide 10 meals for those going hungry in your local and surrounding neighborhoods. The inaugural run is taking place in New York City on Sunday, September 23, 2012 (my birthday weekend!).  If you don’t live in New York City, you can take part in their 10 City Challenge in Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Colorado, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco, and Seattle. If you don’t live anywhere near those places, you can still participate by registering to do a virtual 10K from wherever you are. Of course, you can always volunteer! No race is possible without the assistance from volunteers! There is even a FREE app you can download on iTunes to help you plot your 10k and help you train from now and October 16th.

Of course, I right away signed up. Not only do I love running, but when it comes to help out those less fortunate than myself, I am there to do whatever I can to help. So will you take the steps to run 10 and feed 10? I hope so!
